start making videogames today

hey you
yes, you

Tragbare Katze1 sorry.
Microsoft killed your favourite videogame studio? (Again?) Sony pushed GAAS slop on the franchise you loved so much? Last kickstarter update: 6 years ago?

Make your own instead. Yeah, it won't be easy. But it also won't be as hard as you've convinced yourself it would be. Pick an engine, godot, unity, unreal, I don't care, it's not that important, just start burning tutorials for a few weeks, multiple times if you don't get something. You don't need that much technical knowledge to get it going; concepts that worked for BASIC games 30 years ago will carry you a long way and you can pick the rest up by googling. Maybe some basic math would be helpful - you know, sines, cosines, the stuff, but these days you can just arrange things by hand, WYSIWYG style.

Write down your ideas (important!). Be realistic - Deus Ex took several dozen veterans to make so you need to work your way up there first. If you can't do something, perhaps ask for help - you never know who might be skilled and willing to lend a hand. But also if you can't do something, start trying anyway. Code, drawing, music, sound, the only way to learn a skill is to practice. Nobody gets it right first try.

So just start working and keep at it. Doesn't have to be all day every day (but perhaps soon you'll find yourself wanting to anyway). You might burn out for a while, it happens - just do something else for a spell; you'll come back soon enough. Just trust in your idea.

And your next game? It will be even better.
Promise.
